The medication Xorel 20 Tablet reduces the amount of acid produced in your stomach. It is used to treat stomach and intestine acid-related diseases such as heartburn, acid reflux, peptic ulcer disease, and some other stomach conditions associated with excessive acid production. Xorel 20 Tablet is also used to prevent stomach ulcers and acidity caused by long-term pain medication use. It is a proton pump inhibitor, which is a type of medication (PPI). Take this medication one hour before a meal, preferably in the morning. The dose will be determined by your underlying condition as well as how you respond to the medication. Try to take it at the same time every day, as directed by your doctor.

Rabeprazole reduces gastric acid production by inhibiting the gastric H+/K+-ATPase at the secretory membrane of the gastric parietal cell. Because this enzyme is thought to be the acid (proton) pump within the parietal cell, rabeprazole has been classified as a gastric proton-pump inhibitor.

Rabeprazole, like other PPIs, is metabolized by the drug-metabolizing enzyme system Cytochrome P450. However, there is no clinically significant interaction between rabeprazole and other drugs metabolized by the CYP P450 system, such as warfarin, theophylline, diazepam, and phenytoin. Rabeprazole inhibits gastric acid secretion and may interfere with the absorption of drugs whose bioavailability is determined by gastric pH, such as ketoconazole, iron salts, and digoxin. There was no interaction with liquid antacids or foods observed in studies.
Rabeprazole is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Rabeprazole or to any component of the formulation.
Pregnancy category B. There are no adequate well-controlled studies on pregnant women. This drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
Use in Nursing Mother:
Given that many medications are excreted in milk and that Rabeprazole may produce harmful effects in nursing infants, a choice should be made regarding whether to stop breastfeeding or stop the medication, taking into account the significance of the medication to the mother.
Store in a cool and dry place, and protect from light.
